Rush Natural Nutrition supports Qhubeka with Tour de France “Unwrap to Gear Up” campaign at Cyclelab stores
Johannesburg, 1 June 2017. The Tour de France (TdF) is the pinnacle of cycling, viewed by the cycling community around the world. This year, from 1 June until 31 July, Rush Natural Nutrition is offering Gauteng cyclists the chance to “Unwrap to Gear Up”.
By purchasing a Rush bar during this period, Cyclelab customers who visit the Fourways, Pretoria and East Rand stores can help to change lives with bicycles. For every bar sold, Rush Natural Nutrition will donate R2 of the price to Qhubeka, an NPO that connects people with bicycles through its work to earn programmes, and the purchaser will be entered into the campaign competition.
“Qhubeka is an Nguni word that means ‘to progress’, ‘to move forward’,” explains Matt Fendick, Client Relations Director at Qhubeka. “Basically, we use bicycles to move communities forward. We partner with the community, public sector, private sector, and non-profit organisations to develop our programmes, which focus on providing people with bicycles in return for working to improve their community, environment or school attendance. By purchasing Rush bars during the period of 1 June to 31 July, people can help us to fund more bicycles for people who work to earn them. Bicycles help people to travel faster, further, carry more, be fitter and access more options, including healthcare and educational facilities.”
Lara Mare’ van Niekerk, Co-founder of Rush Natural Nutrition says that prizes up for grabs include Rush bars, Rush caps, Qhubeka bracelets, Qhubeka shirts and Rush cycling gear. “These prizes can be found on cog tickets within select Rush bars on shelf and can be redeemed within store until 31 July 2017,” she says. “We hope that this campaign will encourage people to consider the role they play in mobilising communities, as well as get them to reflect on what they need to remove from their own lives to shift up a gear and propel those around them forward.”
The bicycles make a massive impact in the lives of their recipients. Beene, a 14-year old who received a bicycle through one of Qhubeka’s education programmes, says, “Only someone who loves you can give you such a gift before you have even met.”
