“Stay close to anything that makes you feel alive”
She rose out of the darkness daring the most brave to set foot on her paths and traverse her mystic contours. The night air was electric, head-lights danced across her dark body. She lured one out with her beauty but she was not to be tamed…Up close and personal with this natural world wonder is not for the faint hearted. She consumes you, she leaves you gasping, she leaves you broken, she leaves you desperate for more…
Oh the humbling irony as we set out to conquer her, she is not to be conquered. She is to be respected. Every step of the way whether 35km, 65km or 100km she demands the highest levels of commitment: Yes or No. In or Out. Up or Down. Fight or Give in. Hero or Coward. These were the choices to be made…These were the difficult choices for broken bodies on the day, but she showed grace and never broke spirits.
She echoed words of encouragement from spectators along route, she offered Alphen glen as a respite from the heat, she provided grand views for weary hearts and a Cape Cobra to get Landie to speed up at the finish;-) She rescued spirits and has no doubt left us all a bit wiser, a bit humbler and a bit more consumed by the epicness of the world we get to call home and the people we get to share it with…
Megs Give It Legs! Such a treat being able to support you on home ground…You made it look so easy!! Thank you for sharing the podium with our mascot- you would have sworn Tyler won the 65km singlehandedly;-)
To Nic and Stu and the entire Ultra Trail Cape Town team (marshals, event managers, social media, photographers, general good guys!) words will never do justice to how privileged we feel having had the opportunity to partner with you from the beginning- 3 years ago. Your dream of putting South Africa on the map as an Ultra Trail destination is now a reality and we are so incredibly proud of the strides you’ve made to get to this point- you deserve every success! Thank you for choosing us, even before we believed in ourselves you believed in us and we will be eternally grateful for taking a chance on us and for the commitment and lengths you’ve gone to to raise the bar- literally!
It’s been real. It’s been raw. It’s been UTCT!
